Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga with Bill Knaus at acac Downtown:
This introductory class will start with the foundations of yoga and gradually take everyone through the postures that make up the “primary sequence” of Asthanga Yoga. For each posture we will explain the fundamentals of the position and we will provide modifications for all body types, ages, and individual considerations. Ashtanga yoga is a vigorous, athletic style of yoga. It appeals to those who like a sense of order, but do not want to “hold” poses for long periods. An Asthanga practice involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing internal heat and a sweat that energies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
This six-week introduction will prepare you to begin a regular yoga practice and enable you to join most of the Asthanga, Hatha, and Vinyasa yoga classes at ACAC.
